Polycarbonate (PC)
Material properties of polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is an amorphous, highly transparent thermoplastic, PC is often used for break-proof safety and protective glazing in the machine sector. The decisive advantages here are its good mechanical strength, above-average impact resistance, high dimensional stability in the heat in addition to transparency with high light transmission.
Polycarbonate offers high mechanical strength and very high dimensional stability. Another advantage is the retention of stiffness over a wide temperature range from -60 to +120 °C. PC is characterized by extremely low water absorption.
The electrically conductive PC is used when, for reasons of operational and occupational safety, glazing products are used which have electrically conductive surfaces and thus dissipate static charges (e.g. in clean rooms, explosion protection and machine protection).
