V-belt pulleys
V-belt pulleys – a critical component in any V-belt drive
V-belt pulleys (also known as grooved pulleys), in conjunction with the V-belt, represent the main components of a V-belt drive. They provide the functionally relevant contact- resp. friction surfaces, through which the torque can be transmitted from the drive pulley to the driven pulley. Due to the set and applied belt pre-tension force on the belt the required surface-/contact pressure on the lateral walls of the V-belt pulley grooves is generated by the flanks of the trapezoidal belt cross-section by means of the belt pretension matched and set on the belt.
Angst+Pfister has the essential know-how and the standard-compliant manufacturing capabilities (acc. to DIN 2211 (=ISO4183) & ISO 254) that enable the use of all common V-profiles.
Getting it right with material, design, dimensioning and installation
Our V-belt pulleys are mainly made of cast iron EN-GJL-200 with a corresponding pre-bore for Taper-Lock® clamping bush systems. The same V-belt pulleys may be used for classic V-belts according to DIN 2215, narrow V-belts according to DIN 7753/1 as well as power belts with the profiles SPZ, SPA, SPB and SPC. This is why they are also called uniform pulleys.
When designing and dimensioning the V-belt drive, we recommend that for cost reasons, when selecting the V-belt pulleys, care should be taken to ensure that standardised pulley diameters are used wherever possible, while taking into account the minimum pulley diameters. If this is not possible for design reasons, a standardised diameter should be selected at least for the largest pulley of the drive.
During installation, the correct alignment (by vertical and horizontal alignment) and fastening of the V-belt pulleys must also be ensured in the interest of the belt durability and the economic efficiency of the drive. Dynamic balancing in two planes is recommended on the one hand from a rotational speed of over 30m/s and on the other hand from a diameter/width ratio of less than 4, in combination with a rotational speed of over 20m/s. Pulleys with a diameter of less than 125mm are statically balanced as standard.
